Grand Hotel Kintélé, Brazzaville, Republic of Congo
On April 6, 2023, at the Grand Hotel de Kintélé in Brazzaville, Congo, the Government of Congo and the Technical Working Group will co-host the proclamation ceremony of the WCA Commitment.
A one-day technical meeting will be held on the eve of the ceremony, bringing together advisors to the Ministers of Education and Health of the countries concerned. The aim of the technical meeting will be to present the commitment process and examine the text, previously shared, in order to obtain the version that will be presented to the ministers for proclamation. The session with ministers on April 6 will be the occasion to publicly approve the Commitment, which is the result of discussions and negotiations with countries and all stakeholders.
The WCA Commitment envisions a generation of adolescents and young people who are healthy, educated, responsible and involved in the development of their families, communities and countries. It emphasizes timely access to quality education and information programmes, as well as access to appropriate health services, as an important platform for improving knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and HIV, reducing teenage pregnancy and preventing GBV. By emphasizing the right of adolescents and young people to education, health, gender equality and empowerment, the Commitment will provide a favorable context for the implementation of the African Union Roadmap on Harnessing the Demographic Dividend (2016) and the Continental Education Strategy for Africa, and the Education Plus Initiative in WCA.
