SENEGAL

A coalition of key stakeholders (ministries, young people, CSOs, the United Nations, and others) is coordinating the development of the CEI curriculum in Senegal. The coalition has laid emphasis on a common understanding of CEI, and has organized a series of workshops resulting in the development of an CEI framework (key concepts and learning objectives) based on international standards, taking into account the socio-cultural context, and in line with the technical requirements of the Ministry of National Education. The involvement of religious organizations such as the Réseau Islam et Population, which trains Imams and highlights verses from the Koran that are supportive of SRH, is helping change social and cultural norms affecting access to information and SRH services.
